Eli Lilly’s Zepbound plus amylin candidate shows 23% weight loss in phase 2 trial, but many patients stopped treatment

Eli Lilly tested a combination of its GLP‑1 obesity drug Zepbound with the amylin‑targeting candidate eloralintide in a mid‑stage study of people with obesity and type 2 diabetes.

After 48 weeks, participants who remained on the highest dose of the combo lost an average of 23.3% of their body weight, a result presented at the European Association for the Study of Obesity meeting.

However, the trial also reported a high discontinuation rate, indicating that many participants stopped the therapy because of tolerability issues.

The mixed outcome highlights both the promise of next‑generation obesity treatments and the challenges of balancing efficacy with patient comfort.
