Roche drops anti-myostatin obesity drug after mid-stage trial shows limited weight loss
Roche announced it will stop development of its anti-myostatin obesity candidate emugrobart after an interim analysis of the Phase 2 GYMINDA trial showed it is unlikely to produce meaningful weight loss.
The decision means the rights to the asset revert to Roche's subsidiary Chugai Pharmaceutical. The trial was testing emugrobart in combination with Eli Lilly's tirzepatide.
BMO Capital Markets noted the move narrows Roche's near-term strategy in the body-composition obesity market. Earlier this year Roche also halted an anti-myostatin antibody program for SMA and FSHD due to limited efficacy.
