Boehringer's obesity injection shows 17% weight loss after 18 months, comparable to Wegovy but below Zepbound

Boehringer Ingelheim, together with Zealand, released data from a late‑stage study of its experimental obesity injection. The trial followed patients for roughly a year and a half.

Participants on the therapy lost nearly 17% of their body weight over the study period, a result the company highlighted as a strong signal of efficacy.

Boehringer said the weight loss is on par with Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, a leading approved product, but falls short of the results reported for Lilly's Zepbound.

The findings suggest the candidate could add competitive pressure in the fast‑growing obesity market, though further data and regulatory steps remain ahead.
