Boehringer’s dual-acting obesity shot survodutide meets primary goal in Phase 3, showing strong weight loss and muscle-preserving effect

Boehringer Ingelheim announced that its dual-acting injectable obesity therapy, survodutide, achieved its primary endpoint in a Phase 3 study.

Participants receiving the drug lost significantly more weight than those on placebo, and early data suggest the treatment may help maintain lean muscle while reducing fat.

Analysts compared the results to Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy, describing the weight loss as comparable but noting it fell short of the reductions seen with Lilly’s Zepbound. They said more safety information and data from a separate trial in patients with metabolic liver disease are needed before judging commercial potential.

The therapy is licensed from Zealand Pharma, and its apparent ability to preserve muscle mass could differentiate it in a market where other GLP‑1 based obesity medicines have shown lean‑body‑mass loss.
