AstraZeneca halts late-stage lung cancer trial of volrustomig after disappointing interim results
AstraZeneca said it is ending its Phase 3 eVOLVE-Lung02 trial that evaluated the bispecific antibody volrustomig combined with chemotherapy as a first-line option for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients with PD-L1 expression below 50%.
An independent data monitoring panel reviewed interim results and concluded the study was unlikely to achieve its primary goals of improving progression-free survival or overall survival, prompting a recommendation to halt the trial.
The company expressed disappointment but noted it will apply lessons learned and will keep pursuing other Phase 3 volrustomig programs in mesothelioma, cervical cancer and head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma.
