Kao USA issues voluntary recall of select Oribe scalp shampoo lots over bacterial contamination

Kao USA announced a voluntary recall of select lots of its Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo in the United States and Canada after detecting the bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae.

The recall applies to the 8.5-oz and 33.8-oz bottles produced between February 21 and February 26, 2026, with specific lot codes identified on the product packaging. Consumers are instructed to stop using any affected shampoo.

Although the bacteria are considered low risk for healthy individuals, people with weakened immune systems may be more susceptible. Kao USA is continuing its investigation to determine the full extent of the issue.
