Berlin Seeds recalls 950 lbs of alfalfa sprouting seed over possible STEC and Salmonella contamination

Berlin Seeds of Millersburg, Ohio announced a recall of 950 pounds of its alfalfa sprouting seed.

The recall was triggered because the seed could be contaminated with Shiga toxin‑producing Escherichia coli (STEC) and/or Salmonella, pathogens that can cause serious illness.

STEC infections can lead to severe diarrheal disease and, in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, or immunocompromised individuals, may progress to hemolytic uremic syndrome, a potentially fatal condition.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled seed and to follow any disposal instructions provided by the company or the FDA.
