Vera Therapeutics receives accelerated approval for Trutakna to treat IgA nephropathy

Vera Therapeutics announced that its fusion protein atacicept, branded as Trutakna, has been granted accelerated approval by the FDA for the treatment of immunoglobulin A nephropathy, a chronic autoimmune condition that can lead to kidney damage.

The approval follows the agency’s assessment that the drug addresses an unmet medical need, allowing it to reach patients more quickly under the accelerated pathway. Atacicept targets specific immune pathways implicated in the disease.

The decision positions Vera in direct competition with Otsuka, which is also developing therapies for IgA nephropathy. Analysts note that the approval could expand Vera’s market presence and attract further investment.
