Vertex’s IgA nephropathy drug povetacicept gains momentum as FDA reviews it after Novartis and Vera approvals

Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ povetacicept is currently under FDA review with a target action date of Nov. 30 for the treatment of IgA nephropathy.

The FDA recently granted full approval to Novartis’ Fabhalta and cleared Vera Therapeutics’ Trutakna, both complement inhibitors for IgAN, marking the first full approval for Fabhalta after its accelerated approval in 2024.

Analysts note that these approvals could create a tailwind for povetacicept, helping Vertex offset its later market entry by benefiting from ongoing educational and awareness campaigns by the newly approved competitors, while also leveraging Vertex’s international presence.
