Celea Therapeutics raises $180 million to advance next-generation IPF drug deupirfenidone

Jul 2, 2026·read at BioPharma Dive ↗DealPositive

Celea Therapeutics, a PureTech Health spinout, announced a $180 million venture round to fund development of its next-generation idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) therapy, deupirfenidone.

The round was led by RA Capital Management and Leaps by Bayer, with participation from PureTech and two undisclosed investors.

The company plans to begin late-stage clinical testing of deupirfenidone in the third quarter of 2026, aiming to improve on Roche’s existing pirfenidone (Esbriet) treatment.

CEO Sven Dethlefs said the new drug could offer meaningful benefits for patients with limited treatment options.
