Setara Biosciences raises $90 million Series A to advance Jazz-spun rare disease programs
Setara Biosciences has been created to focus on a set of rare-disease assets that Jazz Pharmaceuticals retained after acquiring Actio Biosciences.
The new company secured $90 million in Series A financing, led by Actio founder and genetics specialist David Goldstein, who will serve as its president and executive officer.
Jazz's original purchase of Actio included a lead candidate for KCNT1-related epilepsy and a promise to spin out the remaining programs while keeping an equity stake in the spin-out.
Setara's first program will be a TRPV4 inhibitor, designated STAR-, aimed at expanding the pipeline of precision-medicine treatments for rare disorders.
