Setara Biosciences raises $90M Series A to advance neuroscience pipeline after Jazz's $820M Actio acquisition
Jazz Pharmaceuticals completed an $820 million purchase of Actio Biosciences in September, creating a new spinout called Setara Biosciences to house the remaining drug programs.
Setara has secured $90 million in Series A financing to move forward with its neuroscience pipeline, which includes the TRPV4 inhibitor STAR-0871 for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2C and overactive bladder, as well as early‑stage discovery projects targeting genetic epilepsies and migraine.
The company finished the healthy‑volunteer portion of a Phase 1 trial of STAR-0871 and plans a Phase 1b study in CMT2C patients in 2027, supported by FDA rare pediatric disease, orphan drug and fast‑track designations. A Phase 2a trial for overactive bladder is also slated.
The funding round underscores investor confidence in Setara’s ability to develop these candidates and positions the company for continued growth in the neurology space.
