Ono Pharma halts ONO-1110 development for depression and anxiety after five Phase 2 failures, continues pain studies
Ono Pharma announced that its endocannabinoid modulator ONO-1110 failed to demonstrate efficacy in five Phase 2 trials, prompting the company to stop development for depression and social anxiety.
The drug also missed primary endpoints in three pain studies targeting postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia and Hunner-type interstitial cystitis, though some pain score improvements were noted.
Despite the setbacks, Ono said it will pursue additional trials to explore potential pain benefits and will continue work on the three pain indications.
The announcement came alongside the company's second‑quarter earnings report, which showed product sales of about $431 million, slightly above analyst expectations.
