Biogen CEO says early-stage R&D now a priority after record five INDs this year
Biogen's chief executive Chris Viehbacher told analysts that the company has shifted its strategy toward early-stage research and development.
He highlighted that Biogen has filed five investigational new drug applications (INDs) this year, a record for the 48-year-old firm, and aims to have six new programs with three new molecular entities in the pipeline.
The CEO credited a "radical overhaul" led by head of research Jane Grogan and head of development Priya Singhal, noting a move from evaluating assets individually to managing a portfolio of opportunities.
The current Phase 1 pipeline is focused on autoimmune diseases, featuring an IRAK4 degrader, a BTK degrader in partnership with C4 Therapeutics, and a long-lasting anti-CD40 monoclonal antibody.
