Syntax Bio claims four-day stem-cell conversion into pancreatic beta cells
Chicago-based Syntax Bio says its Cellgorithm platform can turn stem cells into pancreatic beta cells in as little as four days. The company describes the process as a programmable set of epigenetic instructions that guide cell fate without altering the DNA sequence.
The platform relies on CRISPR activation to switch on the cell’s own driver genes in a defined order. Conditional guide RNAs deliver multiple signals simultaneously, allowing the cells to follow a step-by-step program toward the beta-cell lineage.
Syntax presented the data at the International Society for Stem Cell Research meeting in Japan, highlighting the potential to address the large unmet need for diabetes therapies. If the approach translates to clinical use, it could shorten development timelines for cell-based treatments.
