Eli Lilly gives 340B hospitals a week to share data or lose drug discounts

Eli Lilly has told hospitals and medical groups that participate in the 340B drug discount program that they must submit claims data for all Lilly medications by the coming Monday, or they will be excluded from the program’s savings.

The deadline comes less than a week after the company announced in January that it would require such data, a policy it had not previously enforced.

Lilly says the additional information is needed to confirm that providers are not receiving duplicate discounts through other programs such as Medicaid, while the hospitals argue the requirement is illegal and could set a troubling precedent.

Hospitals are urging regulators to intervene, warning that without action other drugmakers may adopt similar ultimatums.
