AbbVie’s combo of Skyrizi and trosunilimab shows higher remission than Skyrizi alone in phase 2 Crohn’s trial
AbbVie tested a next‑generation Crohn’s disease regimen by randomizing 300 patients with moderate‑to‑severe disease to receive Skyrizi, the α4β7 inhibitor trosunilimab, or the two drugs together (code‑named ABBV‑466).
At week 12, the combination achieved endoscopic remission in 30.2% of participants, outperforming Skyrizi monotherapy (21.3%) and trosunilimab alone (18.0%). The remission rate also exceeds the 24% and 19% reported in earlier phase‑3 Skyrizi studies.
The trial population was heavily pre‑treated, with three‑quarters having failed at least one advanced therapy, while the remaining quarter were biologic‑naïve. These results suggest that adding an α4β7 blocker may overcome residual inflammation that persists despite IL‑23 inhibition.
If confirmed in later studies, the combination could broaden therapeutic options for Crohn’s patients and bolster AbbVie’s portfolio beyond Skyrizi’s existing $10 billion revenue stream.
