Eli Lilly's retatrutide shows over a third of patients lose 25%+ weight in phase 3 trial

Eli Lilly presented detailed results from its phase 3 retatrutide trial at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting in Milan and in a recent Lancet publication.

The study enrolled 1,152 adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Participants receiving the highest 12 mg dose experienced an average weight loss of 20.8% after 80 weeks, compared with a 4% loss in the placebo group.

A striking finding was that 34.9% of patients on the top dose lost at least 25% of their body weight, and 52% lost at least 20%. More than half of the treated participants no longer met the BMI threshold for obesity.

Glycemic control improved modestly, with A1C reductions of 1.4% to 1.6% across the three dose levels versus 0.2% for placebo, and no clear dose‑dependent effect on A1C was observed.
