Corbus reports phase 1b obesity data showing lower neuropsychiatric side effects for CB1 antagonist
Corbus Pharmaceuticals released results from a phase 1b trial of its CB1 inverse agonist aimed at treating obesity. The study indicated the drug lowered rates of depression, anxiety, irritability and insomnia compared with earlier CB1 blockers.
The findings contrast with past attempts by Novo Nordisk and Sanofi, whose CB1 drugs were linked to higher psychiatric risks and were withdrawn or halted. Novo’s monlunabant trial reported similar side effects, leading the company to drop the program.
Corbus shares rose modestly after the announcement, and the company said it plans to move the candidate, CRB-913, into a phase 2 study to further assess efficacy and safety.
