GE HealthCare eyes $1 billion purchase of radiopharmaceutical developer Sofie Biosciences

GE HealthCare is reported to be weighing a purchase of Sofie Biosciences, a radiopharmaceutical developer, for as much as $1 billion, according to the Financial Times.

Sofie Biosciences, based in Dulles, Virginia, has spent two decades creating specialized chemicals used in imaging scans that detect cancer.

The potential acquisition would expand GE's pharmaceutical diagnostics capabilities and complement its existing portfolio of MRI, CT and PET scanners. It follows recent restructuring at GE HealthCare, including the formation of an Advanced Imaging Solutions segment that merges its imaging and ultrasound units.

Neither company has confirmed the report, and the deal could be finalized as early as next week, but it remains speculative at this stage.
