Combination therapy including leronlimab clears HIV in infant macaques, offering new cure hope

CytoDyn researchers tested leronlimab together with broadly neutralizing antibodies and antiretroviral therapy in a cohort of 55 infant macaques. Only the eight animals that received the full three-drug combination showed no detectable virus.

The virus did not establish infection in those eight monkeys, and they stayed HIV-free for as long as a year after treatment was stopped, suggesting a durable cure effect in this model.

Lead author Jonah Sacha said the macaque immune system closely mirrors humans, making the results a strong proof-of-concept for a potential CCR5-targeted cure strategy.
