Sanofi pauses Phase 2 bronchiectasis study of SAR445399 amid new CEO’s portfolio review

Sanofi has halted a Phase 2 trial of its investigational antibody SAR445399 in non‑cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. The pause was attributed to strategic business reasons linked to an internal portfolio review, not to any safety or efficacy concerns.

The drug is a monoclonal antibody that blocks interleukin‑1 receptor 3 (IL‑1R3), a component of immune‑related signaling pathways. It was brought into Sanofi’s pipeline through a research and licensing deal with MAB Discovery in December 2015.

Sanofi’s public pipeline still lists SAR445399 as being evaluated in a separate mid‑stage study for hidradenitis suppurativa, which remains open and recruiting. No entry exists for the bronchiectasis indication.

The decision reflects the new CEO Belén Garijo’s “very rigorous portfolio prioritization process,” aimed at focusing resources on assets with the strongest scientific merit and long‑term value potential.
