La Ceiba Foods recalls Salvadoran and Mexican cottage cheese over possible Listeria contamination
La Ceiba Foods Latin Market Inc. announced on June 26, 2026 that it is recalling its Requesón Salvadoreño (Salvadoran cottage cheese) and Requesón Mexicano (Mexican cottage cheese) products sold under the La Colonia and Selectos Latinos brands.
The recall was triggered by possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause severe illness, especially in young children, the elderly, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals. Symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and infection can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women.
The affected items were distributed to supermarkets, retail stores and restaurants in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. All lots and batches within the expiration date are being removed from the market.
