FDA finds low levels of PFAS in most U.S. baby formulas, says supply remains largely safe
The FDA recently tested 312 infant formula samples from 16 brands and released its findings.
The agency detected five types of PFAS, with PFOS appearing in about half of the samples, but 95% of those had concentrations below 2.9 parts per trillion.
While the low levels are considered unlikely to pose a health risk, experts note that any presence of “forever chemicals” in a product consumed by infants raises concerns and suggest stricter limits.
The report also highlighted that many formulas were completely PFAS‑free, and officials say the overall supply remains safe for the two‑thirds of U.S. infants who rely on formula.
