Nonprofit Blood Cancer United purchases remaining Luvelta supplies to keep compassionate access for children

Jun 11, 2026·read at STAT ↗DealPositive

Blood Cancer United, formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, announced it will purchase the remaining inventory of Luvelta, an investigational antibody‑drug conjugate that had been discontinued.

The nonprofit will also take over the drug’s investigational new drug designation and run a compassionate‑use program that provides the medication at no cost to children with a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia while supplies last.

Luvelta, originally designed to target folate‑receptor‑positive lung and ovarian tumors, has been used as a bridge to stem‑cell transplantation in a small subset of AML patients. Sutro Biopharma halted development in March 2025 to reallocate resources to other candidates.

By securing the remaining doses, Blood Cancer United aims to preserve treatment options for patients who would otherwise lose access, highlighting a rare example of a nonprofit stepping in to fill a gap left by a commercial developer.
