Servier announced that its experimental drug for Becker muscular dystrophy did not meet its primary endpoint in a Phase 3 trial called GRAND CANYON.
The drug, sevasemten, was acquired from Edgewise Therapeutics in June for $1.55 billion upfront plus up to $1 billion in milestones. Earlier smaller studies had shown promise.
Servier said the results differ from earlier data and it will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the trial dataset. The failure is a setback for patients, as there are currently no approved therapies for Becker muscular dystrophy.
