AstraZeneca drops two early-phase prostate cancer programs
AstraZeneca announced it is terminating development of two early-phase prostate cancer candidates, AZD9750 and AZD8359, as part of a quarterly pipeline review.
AZD9750, an oral androgen-receptor degrader entered the clinic in January with a planned enrollment of 300 patients, but the trial was halted after only six participants due to unfavourable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data.
AZD8359, another AR-degrader, was also dropped months after its first-in-human study began, with the company citing strategic considerations.
The cuts reflect AstraZeneca’s focus on more promising assets and underscore the challenges of developing novel AR-targeted therapies for prostate cancer.
