Oura and UC San Diego Health launch trial linking smart ring data to obesity treatment outcomes
Oura and UC San Diego Health have partnered on a multi-year clinical trial called SMART-BMI to explore how continuous data from the Oura Ring may reflect patient response to obesity therapies.
The study will enroll patients receiving GLP-1 drugs or undergoing bariatric surgery and will collect ring metrics such as sleep patterns, heart rate, and activity levels between clinic visits.
Researchers will compare these wearable signals with clinical outcomes including weight loss, HbA1c changes and treatment persistence to see if the data can serve as early indicators of success.
The trial is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07736729) and aims to demonstrate how wearable technology can support precision medicine in obesity management.
