Moderna CEO Bancel optimistic after Phase 3 success of mRNA melanoma vaccine intismeran
Moderna chief executive Stéphane Bancel said the company will move quickly to obtain FDA approval for its experimental melanoma therapy intismeran after a Phase 3 trial showed positive results.
The trial, presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology meeting in Madrid, is the first Phase 3 study of an mRNA-based personalized cancer vaccine to demonstrate an improvement in outcomes for melanoma patients.
The success caps a decade of development that began with a partnership with Merck, and Bancel described the achievement as “amazing” given earlier skepticism about cancer vaccines.
