ADA chief scientific officer Rita Kalyani departs amid ongoing review of New Orleans incident

The American Diabetes Association announced Tuesday that its chief scientific and medical officer, Dr. Rita Kalyani, is no longer in her role, effective immediately.

The move comes as the ADA continues a review of a June 5 incident at its New Orleans meeting, where five members were removed by armed security after distributing an editorial in Diabetes Care that warned about federal research funding cuts.

The organization has not provided an explanation for Dr. Kalyani’s departure, and the review of the June incident is expected to take additional time.
