Israeli biotech's inhaled exosome therapy cuts respiratory failure and mortality in ARDS phase 2b trial
Nano24, an Israeli biotech company, tested its inhaled exosome product EXO‑CD24 in a mid‑stage study involving 90 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. The trial compared the therapy, given twice daily for five days, with a placebo.
At the seven‑day mark, 85% of participants receiving EXO‑CD24 avoided respiratory failure, far exceeding the 33% rate observed in the placebo group, meeting the study's primary goal.
Mortality over 28 days was 6.7% for the treatment arm versus 30% for placebo, and the advantage persisted to six months, with death rates of 13.3% versus 43.3%. Hospital stays were also shorter, averaging 6.5 days compared with 14.4 days for controls. The therapy was well tolerated, with no serious treatment‑related adverse events reported.
