Servier to acquire Edgewise's experimental muscular dystrophy drug in $2.7B deal

Jun 1, 2026·read at BioPharma Dive ↗DealPositive

Servier, a French pharmaceutical company, announced it will acquire the muscular dystrophy business of Colorado biotech Edgewise Therapeutics.

The deal centers on sevasemten, an experimental oral tablet that aims to protect fragile muscles by inhibiting a protein involved in fast, powerful contractions. Edgewise has moved the drug into mid‑stage trials for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is preparing pivotal studies for Becker muscular dystrophy.

Servier will pay $1.55 billion in cash up front, with up to $1.1 billion in additional contingent payments tied to regulatory and commercial milestones, bringing total potential value to about $2.7 billion.

The company said the acquisition will make it a global player with strong capabilities in neuromuscular disorders, expanding its focus beyond its traditional cardiovascular and metabolic portfolio.
