GSK to cut over 1,200 jobs at Belgian sites as $2.5 bn restructuring continues
GSK announced it will eliminate more than 1,200 positions across its Belgian facilities, following an earlier closure of a German vaccine plant that cut about 650 jobs.
The reductions are part of a three‑year, $2.5 billion restructuring plan designed to shift capital toward the company's late‑stage pipeline and research and development, a spokesperson said.
The layoffs will affect the Rixensart, Wavre and Gembloux sites and will involve streamlining research, manufacturing and support functions, with greater use of digital and automation tools.
Even after the cuts, GSK will remain the largest biopharma employer in Belgium, and the country continues to serve as a major hub for the company's vaccine manufacturing, accounting for more than half of its global vaccine output.
