Trump administration issues new rules to standardize health-insurance pricing disclosures
The Trump administration on Monday issued new regulations that require health-insurance companies to release cleaned-up spreadsheets showing the amounts they pay hospitals and physicians. The rules strip out extraneous data that previously cluttered the files.
The agencies also announced that work will begin next month on a system to disclose prescription-drug pricing. Mehmet Oz, the head of Medicare and Medicaid, said a tentative final plan for drug-price data is expected by May of next year.
The government will enforce the new reporting requirements by the end of 2027. Last year the administration delayed finalizing drug-price disclosure rules, a move that had been welcomed by drug makers and pharmacy-benefit managers.
