Utah moves forward with AI-driven acne prescription pilot, Nolla Health to test autonomous drug prescribing
Utah regulators announced a plan to allow an artificial intelligence product to evaluate patients and generate drug prescriptions without prior human review.
Nolla Health, a startup, will launch an AI-powered service that assesses patients with mild-to-moderate acne using a structured intake and analysis of skin photos, and may select from a list of low-risk drugs.
In the initial phase of the pilot, a licensed clinician will review and sign off on the AI’s decisions, but the program could later permit the AI to prescribe drugs autonomously.
The company raised $4.5 million last year from investors such as General Catalyst and aims to expand the technology to treat additional conditions.
