Vaxcyte announced that its experimental pneumococcal vaccine, VAX-31, achieved the primary endpoints in a Phase 3 trial.
The study enrolled just over 3,500 adults aged 50 and older who were randomized to receive VAX-31, Pfizer’s Prevnar, or Merck’s Capvaxive, and antibody responses were measured.
VAX-31 targets 31 serotypes, compared with 20 for Prevnar and 21 for Capvaxive, positioning Vaxcyte to compete in the lucrative pneumococcal vaccine market.
