Lawmakers ask Trump to reconsider rule that would tighten import of prescription drugs from Canada

Congressional members are pressing the Trump administration to revisit a federal rule slated to take effect on Oct. 22 that would tighten how prescription medicines are imported from Canada and other countries.

The rule would require any medication mailed from abroad to clear customs through a licensed broker and to be backed by a financial entry bond, adding both procedural steps and extra cost for U.S. patients.

For years, many Americans have relied on licensed international pharmacies to obtain lower-cost drugs, often traveling to Canada or ordering online. Lawmakers argue the new requirements could limit that access and increase out-of-pocket spending, and they are urging the administration to modify the policy.
