Novo aims to increase oral Wegovy manufacturing capacity tenfold by 2030

Novo announced at its Capital Markets Day that it plans to expand the manufacturing capacity for its oral GLP-1 drug Wegovy by a factor of ten by the end of the decade.

The company said about 1.5 million patients are currently using the oral formulation, and sales have risen quickly since its launch in January, outpacing Eli Lilly’s competing oral GLP-1 product.

CEO Maziar Mike Doustdar emphasized that the expanded capacity will remove concerns about supply constraints, and the firm expects to serve up to 60 million patients across all products if its projections hold.

Novo has secured the additional manufacturing capability in both the United States and overseas, according to EVP of global manufacturing and supply Kasper Bødker Mejlvang.
