Novo Nordisk launches Phase 3 trial of lower maintenance doses of oral Wegovy for obesity
Novo Nordisk has begun a Phase 3, placebo-controlled study called OASIS 5 to evaluate two lower oral doses of its GLP-1 weight-loss drug Wegovy (semaglutide) in people who are obese or overweight.
The trial adds to the current dosing regimen, which starts at 1.5 mg daily, steps up over 30 days, and reaches a 25 mg maintenance dose after about three months. The new study aims to identify a lower maintenance dose that may better match real-world patient needs.
Researchers will give participants the investigational doses alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Results could lead to updated dosing recommendations that provide more flexibility and improve the patient experience.
The study started enrolling patients this month and reflects Novo's effort to stay ahead in the competitive oral obesity-treatment market.
