Wakefern recalls select organic unsweetened apple sauce jars over high patulin levels
Wakefern Food Corp announced a voluntary recall of certain containers of its Wholesome Pantry Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce after FDA testing found patulin levels above safety limits.
Patulin is a toxin produced by molds on damaged apples; the affected product is sold in 23-ounce plastic jars with UPC 04119005677 and a best-by date of June 16 2027.
The recalled jars were distributed through Wakefern's supermarket banners including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market. No other products are affected and no illnesses have been reported.
