Novo Nordisk cuts 13,000 jobs to redirect funds toward R&D
Novo Nordisk announced further workforce reductions, bringing total departures to about 13,000 over the past year.
CEO Maziar Mike Doustdar said the cuts are intended to free up capital for research and development and improve competitiveness, a point he made during the company’s Capital Markets Day.
The latest 4,000 departures include attrition, retirements, voluntary exits and unfilled positions, and are not all classified as layoffs; an earlier 9,000 were laid off after a 2025 restructuring.
The company now employs roughly 67,000 people, and the reductions support its goal of reaching $23 billion in revenue by 2035.
