ARPA-H commits $62.7 million to develop FDA-authorized AI for heart-failure treatment

Sep 9, 2026·read at STAT ↗DealPositive

ARPA-H announced a $62.7 million investment to create artificial-intelligence systems that can assist in treating heart failure.

The program, called ADVOCATE, seeks to develop partially autonomous devices authorized by the FDA that can assess symptom severity, prescribe medications, and order laboratory tests.

Initial awards were granted to health-tech companies Atman Health, UpDoc, Tempus AI, and research teams from Stanford University, Duke University and Kaiser Permanente, with $33.7 million earmarked for the first year and the balance to be renegotiated.

ARPA-H may add more recipients as the initiative moves forward.
