DOJ subpoenas signal start of criminal probe into gender-affirming care for minors

Several hospitals have been served with grand jury subpoenas that request information about gender‑affirming treatments provided to minors, indicating that the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation.

NYU Langone disclosed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Texas asked the hospital to turn over records covering patients from 2020 through 2026, including details on the minors, the clinicians who treated them, and other involved staff.
