ADA reviews June conference disruptions, finds no censorship of editorial

American Diabetes Association CEO Charles "Chuck" Henderson apologized after several attendees were removed from the June 5 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans for repeated disruptions. He said the apology was directed both to the individuals involved and to the broader diabetes community.

An independent review conducted by five volunteer investigators was completed to examine the incident. The review focused on two main allegations: that the ADA suppressed a viewpoint critical of federal research cuts and that attendees were removed for distributing that editorial.

The reviewers found no evidence of censorship. The editorial in question had been published in the ADA's own journal, Diabetes Care, and the removals were based on conduct that violated the conference code of conduct. Henderson urged that the findings be shared directly, without further narrative distortion.
