ADA internal review rejects claims of silencing protest after member expulsions

An internal review by the American Diabetes Association examined the removal of five participants from its scientific sessions in New Orleans. The expulsions occurred after the individuals distributed an editorial that criticized recent federal funding cuts for diabetes research.

The five‑person committee appointed by the ADA concluded that the members were removed because their behavior violated the organization’s code of conduct, not because of the substance of the editorial. The review explicitly rejected allegations that the ADA silenced dissenting opinions.

The committee’s findings have been forwarded to the ADA board for further action, but observers expect the dispute to continue as the controversy has persisted since the June 5 incident.
