Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary is leaving his post after serving a little over a year, according to an administration source. His tenure was marked by staff departures and internal disputes.

Sources said a faction within Health and Human Services had been dissatisfied with Makary’s leadership and had explored ways to remove him for months. Reports in the Wall Street Journal and other outlets suggested the White House was considering his dismissal, heightening speculation about his exit.

Kyle Diamantas, the agency’s senior official for food regulation, will assume the role of acting commissioner. Neither the White House nor representatives for Makary or HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. responded to requests for comment.
