U.S. officials urge Germany to raise drug prices in trade talks

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and senior health adviser Chris Klomp met with German Ambassador Jens Hanefeld at a breakfast briefing to press Germany to increase the price it pays for prescription medicines.

The officials suggested that the United States could invoke Section 301 tariffs, a trade tool used to counter practices deemed unfair, as leverage to compel higher drug payments abroad.

The German ambassador said he would take the proposal back to his government for consideration, but no agreement was reached during the meeting.
