Novartis IL-6 antibody pacibekitug cuts inflammation markers in Phase 2 study

A Phase 2 trial called TRANQUILITY showed that pacibekitug, an IL-6‑targeting antibody acquired by Novartis, reduced several biomarkers of inflammation in participants.

The reductions were sustained over the study period and appeared dose‑dependent, with higher doses producing larger drops in the measured markers.

IL-6 is a key driver of immune activity, and lowering its signaling is being explored as a way to improve cardiovascular health. While the biomarker data are encouraging, the trial did not assess actual heart outcomes, and further studies will be needed to determine whether the anti‑inflammatory effect translates into clinical benefit.

Novartis has not yet detailed its regulatory or development plan for pacibekitug as a cardiovascular therapy, but the positive readout positions the drug for additional evaluation.
