Biotech Index Surges as IPOs and M&A Activity Accelerate in 2026
The XBI biotech index, which had fallen to about $64 per share three years ago, has climbed back to near $170, almost doubling its value over the past year.
Investor interest is reflected in a wave of new public offerings. Twenty biotech companies have gone public so far in 2026, with five debuting this month, more than double the 11 IPOs recorded last year.
The size of these offerings is also larger, with fourteen companies raising at least $250 million, a level not seen since 2021. Together with a steady flow of acquisitions, the heightened activity is boosting market sentiment toward the sector.
