Cytokinetics reports positive pivotal trial results for aficamten in non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Biotech Cytokinetics disclosed full data from a pivotal study of its drug aficamten in patients with non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (nHCM). The trial met both primary endpoints, showing that the medication improved how patients felt and increased their exercise capacity.

The results suggest a therapeutic benefit in this inherited heart condition, although some experts say the magnitude of improvement is modest. Cytokinetics said the data support moving forward with regulatory filing.

The company plans to submit aficamten to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration by the end of the year. If approved, it would become the first therapy specifically cleared for nHCM.
